Being a freelance photographer you take work wherever you can find it.  One of my favorite places to look for jobs however is the services oriented website Thumbtack.

While they work with freelance professionals in many industries, as a full time photographer I absolutely love the tools they give me to manage my business. And because they introduce me to clients like Lauren.

Lauren contacted me via Thumbtack for photography services because she is in the middle of changing careers.  At the time of our shoot she had just passed the test to get her real estate license the previous week and had been hired by a new employer.  All this was incredibly exciting for her.  However, now that she was officially moving into real estate she needed business cards with a headshot on them.

We arranged a time and place via Thumbtack messaging and met in front of the Colt & Grey in Denver’s Capitol Hill neighborhood.

We had a quick conversation about what she wanted in her photographs and I quickly determined she loved the idea of having brick as her backdrop because she was considering have a full picture as her business card.

However, I was determined to give her options in her photographs.  The Capitol Hill neighborhood provided a wealth of them.

As a photographer I primarily shoot headshots outside because I feel they are less “stuffy” than the traditional portrait studio headshot.  This fit Lauren’s vibrant personality and brilliant smile perfectly. I was able to find a large variety of different types and textures of brick to give her the photographs she was initially looking for but I also found business facades covered in metal, wood, stone and stucco to provide variety in her shots.

We walked around the neighborhood for about an hour and a half taking photos against all of these backgrounds and in the end we came up with a shot that I feel captured her perfectly.

I’m honored to have worked with her and wish her the best moving forward in her new career.
